Our Tea Partner: Brodies of Musselburgh
At Cygnet, we are proud to source our tea and coffee from Brodies of Musselburgh, a company with a heritage stretching back to 1867. For over 150 years, Brodies has been a hallmark of quality in Scotland, blending and roasting with care and expertise. They were one of the early adopters of ethical practices such as Fairtrade (since 1998), and they have built strong, trusted relationships with tea growers, farmers and co-operatives around the world.
Ethics, Quality & Sustainability
Brodies doesn’t just talk about quality — they live it. Every tea they bring in is rigorously assessed and tasted before purchase: dry leaf appearance, aroma, colour, flavour, and mouthfeel are all taken into account. They source from well-established tea-growing regions such as India, Sri Lanka, China & Africa, while also exploring newer origins such as Vietnam, Indonesia and Zimbabwe. From an ethical standpoint, Brodies ensures their suppliers adhere to high standards: fair working conditions, safe hygienic facilities, respect for environmental regulation, and social responsibility. Their environmental policies include minimising waste, using energy-efficient equipment, reviewing packaging for sustainability, and avoiding genetically modified ingredients.
